U21-E04. Integrated operating room

(Karl Storz OR1, Karl Storz Spies) with possibility of integrating endoscopy images, cameras, documents, communications, etc., Allowing data transfer, videoconferences from a touch screen or voice.
Single-pole and two-pole electrosurgical generators (Force Triad Valleylab, Karl Storz AUTOCON® II 200, Erbe ICC 300, Erbe VIO 310, Erbe ICC 200, Ultracision Harmonic scalpel, Ligasure Valleylab, Sonicision)

Laparoscopic surgery equipments: nineteen high definition laparoscopic towers (Karl Storz-Endoskope) equipped with monitors, cold light source, insuflator (Thermoflator), susction and irrigation system (Endomat) and optics with different calibers and view angles. In addition, four of them have incorporated a Visualization Enhancement Tools system (Karl Storz Image 1 SpiesTM) for fluorescence-based procedures in order to visualize what is hidden from view under conventional white lightand and another two possessed. The KARL STORZ 3D system which offers the surgeon excellent depth of field combined with outstanding hand-eye coordination.

The VHIR’s Animal Facility includes areas for rodents, rabbits, pigs, minipigs and sheeps. In the case of rodents the facility includes:
– Standard clean area and passive quarantine with an area of 136 m2 with
-10 holding rooms for 225 rats and 11,200 mice
-1 passive quarantine and isolation room with modern microisolators and capacity for 560 mice
-6 handling areas for carrying out experimental and surgical procedures with supplies of gases and inhalable anesthesia as well as surgical microscopes
– A Barrier area with 65 m2 for housing and handling of specific pathogen free (SPF) animals, including immunodeficient mice
-The Molecular Imaging Platform Room, where the molecular imaging equipment is located

The facility has the equipment necessary for fixation(chemical or by freezing), preparations of blocks, slicing and staining using various techniques, from conventional to immunohistochemical stains. The set-up includes everything from the automatic tissue processor to a paraffin embedding station, two microtomes, anautomated staining systems and a microscope for digital registration of the samples.
