Researchers of NANBIOSIS at CCMIJU units invited to co-edit a collection of video articles by the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JOVE)

Verónica Crisóstomo, Scientific Director of NANBIOSIS unit 24 Medical imaging and Coordinator of the Cardiovascular area at CCMIJU afiliated to the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red Cardiovascular (CIBER-CV), along with Claudia Báez, researcher of that area, have been invited to co-edit the collection of video articles for JOVE.

Have you ever tried to reproduce a methodology you have only read about on a paper? When we try it, we normally end up wishing we could see how the authors actually do it” – explain the researchers.

To date, very few Journals are available to accept video articles for submission/publication in our field, despite this type of articles being of paramount importance in translational cardiovascular research in order to share new techniques and approaches.

For this reason, reeaearchers decided to start a Collection entitled Large Animal Models of Cardiovascular Diseasefrom Training to Translation on JoVE, whose purpose is to offer a comprehensive overview and a visual guide to how successfully reproduce cardiovascular disease models in large animals with the ultimate aim of bridging the gap from bench to bedside.

The Journal is currently indexed in the major databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus and Web of Science. The most recent Impact Factor for JoVE (ISSN 1940-087X) is 1.163 in JCR.

JoVE’s team takes care of the entire process of filming and producing the video: after submission, each manuscript will be editorially and peer reviewed, which is typically a 1-2 month process. Once a text article passes review, a script will be generated. Generally, a filming date will be scheduled within 4-8 weeks after acceptance. A videographer will be sent to the authors’ site to film the procedure.

If interested, please contact by email crisosto@ccmijesususon.com or  cbaez@ccmijesususon.com   or submit the  abstract here:  https://www.jove.com/methods-collections/1004

Launching the Preliminary Market Consultation Webinar of the TREMIRS Project: Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgical Systems

Cáceres, April 15th, 2021

The CCMIJU, as a beneficiary of the Innovative Public Procurement Program of the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, through the project “Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery Systems” (TREMIRS), will invest € 7,345,300 in the development of innovative solutions in surgical robotics to improve services provided to the patient, the surgeon’s ergonomics and offer greater benefits to the surgical team, thus achieving an increase in the quality of healthcare.

This ambitious challenge, 80% co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the Programa Operativo Plurirregional de España (POPE) 2014-2020 and by the Consejería de Economía, Ciencia y Agenda Digital de la Junta de Extremadura, will last three years and will develop two innovative solutions in the field of surgical robotics, one focused on laparoscopic robotic surgery and the other on microsurgical robotics.

The first solution will facilitate new surgical approaches, provide improvements in surgeon ergonomics, advances in surgical assistance systems, and new portable training tools. The second will implement robotic micro-instruments for soft tissue manipulation and for performing microsurgical techniques such as anastomosis, suturing and ligation on small anatomical structures such as blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic ducts.

The development of both platforms will provide the National Health System and the Extremadura Health Service new equipment that is not currently available on the market and that will improve the quality of patient services and surgical results.

The project is currently in the preliminary market consultation phase as a prior action to the Innovative Public Procurement procedure for the aforementioned solutions. The purpose of this consultation is to obtain information about innovative solutions that respond to the challenges of the project through technologies that exceed the benefits of the existing ones. The results of this consultation will allow us to define the technical and functional specifications of the solutions to be achieved with a subsequent public procurement process.

You can find more information about the project and the preliminary market consultation at the free webinar on April 21, 2021 at 10:00 am.

CAMPUS JUMISC online training

The Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, CCMIJU, partner of NANBIOSIS, offer high quality training based on itslearning philosophy perfectly adapted to new teaching methodologies and to a more dynamic and interconnected world.

The CCMIJU Campus responds to the new modalities of online training and education. Based on their interests and objectives, students choose the course to suit their level and learning pace, being able to interact with expert tutors through social networks. Emerging as a complement to face-to-face activity, the CCMIJU Campus offers high quality training adapted to new methodologies, and to a more dynamic and intercommunicated world.

The only training modality provides a self-paced learning for those who need to start completing the targets at any time and can arrange their schedule to satisfy individual needs. All lectures, videos and needed materials are provided via this online platform.

The face-to-face courses offer a pyramid training system with two training modalities: Set courses (Scheduled activities monitored by trainers of different specialties) and Under-request courses (Training courses on minimally invasive surgery techniques, addressed to medicine professionals to improve their skills in the use of new techniques, devices and equipment)

CCMIJU leads an European Project based on mixed reality and 3D printing applied to medical education

The CCMIJU, partner of NANBIOSIS leads a European consortium of 9 partners from Spain, Norway, Netherlands, Romania and Greece to carry out the Research Project entitled “Mixed Reality in Medical Education Based on Interactive Applications“-MIREIA, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme – Key Action 2 (KA2): Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices – Knowledge Alliances.

The consortium members will work together to develop an innovative methodology and tools to provide paedagogical content for customized training based on 3D models, such as anatomical models (with and without pathologies) built from real-patient cases (e.g. medical imaging studies) or virtual scenarios for basic training in minimally invasive surgery.

MIREIA will allow health professionals to train in virtual environments or physical simulators based on personalised 3D printed models. Mentors will also be able to create and share their clinical experience.

The Project leader Francisco Miguel Sánchez Margallo, Assistant Director of NANBIOSIS and Scientific Director of the CCMIJU, will be supported by a team of researchers and communication assistants led by Dr. Juan Alberto Sánchez Margallo, researcher in the Bioengineering and Health Technologies Department to carry out the research in cooperation with the rest of the consortium members.

Over a period of 3 years and with a budget of 1M€,  the MIREIA Project aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and laboratory training and actual clinical practice.

NANBIOSIS Scientific Women in the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Today February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day to raise awareness of the gender gap in science and technology.

According to the United Nations, while yet women and girls continue to be excluded from participating fully in science, science and gender equality are vital to achieve the internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Thus, in recent years, the international community has made a great effort to inspire and promote the participation of women and girls in science.

NANBIOSIS wants to acknowledge  the efforts made by scientific women who struggle every day to contribute their bit to Science and highlight their essential role in nowadays research. Especially we want to recognize the work of scientists women involved in NANBIOSIS, whatever is the nature of their contribution: technical, scientific development, management, coordination, direction, etc; just to mention some examples:
