NANBIOSIS presented its capacities at IBIMA, showcasing services, success stories, and exploring collaborations to advance biomedical research.
Málaga, march 2025. On March 11, 2025, Elisa Checa, Coordinator of NANBIOSIS-ICTS, delivered a presentation titled “NANBIOSIS: Capacities and Success Stories” at the IBIMA BIONAND Platform Assembly Hall. The event, attended by researchers from IBIMA, highlighted the wide range of services and infrastructures offered by NANBIOSIS to support biomedical and nanotechnology research.
As one of the three nodes that form NANBIOSIS, IBIMA plays a crucial role in advancing scientific innovation. During the visit, the NANBIOSIS coordination team toured the IBIMA facilities, gaining a deeper insight into the cutting-edge technologies available at the institute. The visit also included a strategic meeting with the IBIMA directives to explore future collaborations and synergies between the institutions.
The presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the capabilities of NANBIOSIS, emphasizing its role in facilitating translational research through state-of-the-art infrastructure and services. Attendees learned about success stories in research and technological development enabled by NANBIOSIS, reinforcing its importance as a key resource for scientists and innovators.
NANBIOSIS Unit 28: A key pillar in bioimaging
IBIMA hosts the NanoImaging Unit (U28) of NANBIOSIS, located at the Andalusian Centre for Nanomedicine and Biotechnology (BIONAND). This Unit is designed to provide integrated technological support for biomedical research, offering advanced imaging services to internal and external users. Under the coordination of Dr. Mª Luisa García Martín, the Unit specializes in:
- Small Animal Multimodal Imaging, featuring MRI, in vivo bioluminescence and fluorescence imaging, and micro-CT for preclinical studies.
- Magnetic Resonance (NMR), with high-resolution spectrometers for routine and advanced studies.
- Electron Microscopy, providing access to high-resolution TEM, Cryo-TEM, SEM, and Electron Tomography for nano- and micro-scale structural characterization.
- Advanced Fluorescence, supporting biomedical research with applications ranging from fluorescence characterization of nano-compounds to preclinical evaluations.
Additionally, IBIMA’s NanoImaging Unit (Unit 28) is also linked to other complementary services, such as cell culture, animal house, and histology, offering researchers a comprehensive platform for multidisciplinary studies.
